Day 1: Animal Kingdom

We started out our adventure in Animal kingdom. We began in Dino Land. Daddy & the boys rode Primeval Whirl Coaster (and got a great video of the boys!), the Flying Dino ride (don't remember the name), Dinosaur time machine (was a too scary for the littles). We saw the Flights of Wonder bird show. The kids thought that was pretty cool! So did Mom & Dad. :) A hawk literally flew right over my head! It was so close i felt the wind from its wings in my hair. It was a super hot day! We drank lots of water and we are so grateful we brought our own cooler with frozen water bottles. :) We saw the Lion King show which was fun to see and sing along to.  Plus it was a nice break to be in an air conditioned building! ;) At lunch we enjoyed our own delicious Costco treats & lunches we packed. (We saved so much money eating our own food!) While we sat down to eat, our boys spotted Carter & Colby Jensen from our ward! They went and got their parents and they came over to say hi. It was crowded and we were almost done eating, so we let them have our table. Fun to be so far from home and still see friends!
After that we used our fast pass and went to Expedition Everest. We got to ride it twice, since Charlie was too small, we did a stroller swap. Josie was tall enough, but being her first roller coaster, she got nervous so I went and grabbed her out of line with daddy. It was an intense ride... Perry was not a fan. He was nervous before and tried to refuse. But I didn't want him to miss out on a fun time, so I bribed him with a souvenir he'd eyed earlier: A little plush "Stitch". (We gave all the kids a small budget for a souvenir but only one for the whole week, so they had to decide carefully and use their money wisely.) He got off and ran to me shaking. He didn't feel good and I held him for a long time. Poor buddy. Well he definitely earned that Stitch. (Daddy got another good video of that ride.) He clearly has my weak stomach. I didn't even go on that ride. Spence used the stroller swap and went on again with Kaden.
Next we cooled off on the Kali river rapids and got pleasantly wet! Then we waited in a really long line, for a really long time to ride the Na'vi river journey. Lame. NOT worth the wait. But there was a family 2 groups ahead of us in line and I could tell they were LDS. I proved I was right when their son turned around and I saw his BYU hat! :) I told Kaden and he goes up to him and says, "Are you LDS?" The boy who was around his age said, "Yes". Kaden smiled and gave him a thumbs up then walked back over to us! ha ha.
Our last adventure for the day was Kilimanjaro Safaris. (that LDS family was in line next to us again haha!) We didn't know what to expect for this one. I figured the animals would be animatronic and Spencer agreed. But NO! They were live real animals and we drove in a real safari truck. I was amazed that their habits were all open between predator animals & omnivorous animals. I was baffled trying to think how they keep them from eating each other! The giraffes were the coolest! They actually blocked the trail so we had to wait for the family to move. As we slowly drove past, i could have reached out and touched a giraffe! I had to resist the impulse to do so, thinking they'd kick me out of the park! It was awesome though! We went right as the sun was going down and was just the perfect way to end our first day. We were all tired and ready to sleep!
