We arrived yesterday early evening. We relaxed got settled in our room in the basement at Matt & JayDee's. We got a great sleep after a long 2day drive. We woke up ready to make the most of this trip!
It was a full day of fun that really tired out the kids. :) We started at Copperton Park where we went last time we were in UT. The kids loved it then and wanted to go back. Some things on the playground have been updated but nothing that took away from the fun they remembered. They still had their obstacle course races with Daddy & Uncle Matt participating too. We had a nice picnic lunch, watched some girls get soaked on the grass because they were sitting near a sprinkler head when they came on! That was pretty funny! It was really hot though, so part of me was thinking i should go sit with them and cool off. :)
After we ate we took a tour at the Bingham Copper Mine. They no longer allow cars to drive up to the mine, so we were shuttled. I had a nice chat with the lady i sat by in the back of the bus. Her daughter Nancy & grandchildren were visiting from Ohio and i said, "Hey that's my name and they're our 'neighbors'!" I told her how much we love the Midwest. She has lived in South Jordan for decades and is a devout Catholic. I was happy to hear her positive perspective of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Later, i took a group photo for her and her family. While i'm not as social and talkative as my mom was, I do enjoy getting to meet other brothers & sisters in the human family.
The kids were in awe of the massive mine and loved learning all about it. We weren't allowed to take any rocks (which is the only souvenir i wanted), but we let the kids each buy a souvenir: Charlie & Perry bought a bag of magnetic rocks, Jo bought a heart shaped polished stone, and Kaden bought a pocket knife with his initial "K" on it.
When we got back to Matt & JayDee's house, the kids jumped on their trampoline with the sprinkler underneath. Classic childhood summer activity! We re created our bucket of water dump photo on the boys! That was awesome! And the one of Cambri and Josie too.
After dinner we went to see Taryn at Hokulia, the shave ice shack where she works. Kiley, Heather, and Sydney met us there (Parky G was at his moms). Charlie has a strong love for Aunt Heather and talks about her all. the. time! So when he saw her show up, he literally ran as fast as he could, pushed people out of the way and jumped into her arms!! I got a picture of their hug, but so wish i'd had him on video running to her. It was so adorable!!
