Our kids love the book “Pete’s A Pizza” by William Steig.
Last night the kids were making school lunches. Josie volunteered to make Charlie’s for his preschool lunch. It was so sweet of her! But Charlie piped up from the family room. “Make me a pizza!” I let him know she couldn’t do that and she’ll make him a sandwich. Then he said “Mommy make me a pizza.” I said no and that it wasn’t time for dinner. He asked me again and I was getting frustrated so I walked into the library and sat next to Spenc at the computer. Charlie followed me and pleaded, “Please MAKE me a pizza!” Without looking at him I said No again and that we’ll have dinner soon. With his little fingers gently on my jaw, he made me look at him, “No, mommy... Please make ME a pizza!” Annoyed I replied, “You can ask all you want and it doesn’t matter how you ask it, I am not making pizza for dinner!” He looked at me and said “No, no, no mommy... (gesturing with both hands to himself) make ME a pizza like the boy and his daddy!” I stopped and finally realized what he was asking. “You want me to make you INTO a pizza? Like the book?” With a huge smile of relief he said “YEAHSSS!”
“Ohhh!” Daddy and I both laughed hard! I felt so bad and picked him up into my arms and apologized for getting grumpy and frustrated and for not understanding. Then I took him to the family room, rolled him like dough, added some sauce and checkers (I mean pepperoni), and we enjoyed an adorable sweet pizza!
