I love that my husband supports my DIY project ideas and gets his hands dirty to make them happen! :) When i first saw that large & unused mulched space in the backyard, I knew a firepit would look good there. Now that all the important interior painting & improvement is done, I wanted to tackle this job.
It all took about a week. From day one this was a family effort. The boys and Josie helped move sticks & branches and even shoveled & hoed the dirt. The difficult part was making the ground level because its on a slope. Spenc worked hard one night to move the dirt around and make it a leveled circle. Several trips were made to Home Depot to haul the heavy loads of bricks & river pebbles. Last night we got the last of the pebbles but it was the worst time to do it. While at Home depot we got hit by a big rain storm! We got home and unloaded the bags of rock on the driveway then waited until the storm passed. When the rain stopped me, Spenc, & the big boys wheeled the bags to the back yard for about 10mins before it started to totally dump on us again! But no one minded and we had a lot of fun working together & getting soaking wet! I'm sure the neighbors & passers-bys thought we were nuts. Well, we are... and I love it!
Spenc even fired up some coals to make a Dutch oven cobbler to cook while we worked. It was SO delicious and a much deserved treat for all!
I love our family so much! I love that we teach our kids that hard work pays off & can be fun too! I'm grateful they all had good attitudes about it. Well, except maybe for Jo...
Josie was a bit sassy. She just wanted to play with the umbrella and stay dry. Which was fine with us. We had to take out all the van seats to load the rock bags and during the down pour i found she'd buckled herself in her seat in the garage! Helmet & all! I asked what she was doing and she said, "I am NOT getting wet! I am staying right here!" Sure thing Miss Thang! Funny girl.
